About

James Roberson is a published author who lives in Auburn, Alabama (War Eagle). As a career journalist, he wrote wrote about science and technology for nearly 30 years.

At age 51, he retired from what his wife calls ‘real work’ to write the Great American Novel. After all, he had written hundreds, if not thousands, of stories about other people. Writing a book should be easy. Right! Wrong! For 13 years he tried and failed to write a marketable novel.

Having long since moved on to a second career in Marketing Communications, he never lost his dream of being a successful author. Until, one day in the Spring of 2014.

Roberson was named as one of 14 writers worldwide to attend a Bayer Summit on Science Writing, in Monheim, Germany. As he feverishly gathered items from his home office, his eyes fixated on a big orange and white box on his desk.

This box contained an assortment of notes, tape recordings, book ideas, computer jump drives and other items related to his long pursuit of the Great American Novel.

From somewhere deep in the recesses of his brain, a thought occurred: Face reality James, the dream is over. So, he placed all the tools of his book writing trade in a large, black garbage bag and hurried it to the city-provided large trash can.

Roberson stood at the bottom of his driveway, of his big house on the hill in an upscale Auburn neighborhood and watched as the big Blue and Orange trash truck took his dream away.

Rather than feeling down and depressed, he was somehow elated that the burden of writing the Great American Novel had forever been lifted from his neck.

A few weeks after he returned from Germany, Roberson woke up about 3 AM with a story in his mind. It was a like a song that one hears before going to bed, then spends the next day trying to find it to hear it again and again.

He remembers struggling to his upstairs office and sitting down to his computer and writing, and writing, and writing. The words were flowing, the characters were vivid, the story actually had a beginning, a middle, and an end.

With few interruptions, he wrote for three days. No need for sleep, little need for food. It was, he recalls, like having sat at that desk, with that computer for 13 years, in total darkness. Then, on that day in May of 2014, someone turned the lights on.

He could see the characters, he could hear their words. At last, he could tell their stories.

His first book, titled Some Days in June, was released in the Fall of 2014 and re-released in June of 2026 under the title “Return to Carentan”. It was followed quickly by Kings Court, Escape from Milltown, then a three part series: Kat Davis Adventures.

Since 2019, Roberson has focused on writing books. Currently, he has 10 paperback books and e-books for sale on Amazon, KDP, Borders, etc. He also has six books available in audio books, from Audible. Four of these books are narrated by Jennifer Gilmore, a phenomenal audio-book narrator.

More importantly, to him, he has 10 unpublished manuscripts. Each is in the 75,000 to 110,000 word ranges. Each book is properly formatted for both print books and e-books.

His goal is to tell his stories to as many people as he can. Fame and fortune are no longer a part of his dream for writing books, though he welcomes partners who do want to make a profit from selling his books.

All of Roberson’s novels are published by RedStang Enterprises LLC, which is his company. His goal is to produce at least a 20-book catalogue of books, as a legacy to his children, grandchildren, and further on down the family line. All earnings from his books will be routed to a Legacy Trust for his heirs.

To you, the readers of his books, Roberson says, “I hope you enjoy reading these stories as much as I enjoyed writing them and telling them.”
